Oh, but this is sooo sweet….it seems that Adam and the folks at NoPornNorthhampton.com are having a bit of a snit….because we  of The Great Pro-Porn Posse is undercutting and “censoring” them again.

Apparently, they got word of Renegade Evolution’s latest campaign to bust their favorite antiporn activist Gail Dines and her Stop Porn Culture slideshow by using the very same 2257 federal regulations that require record keeping for explicit sexual imagery. Ren is basically saying that if folks like John Stagliano has to go to jail because his videos might be accessible to “minors”; then why the hell is SPC allowed to go off scot-free and present their slideshows in open daylight to public audiences using the very same sexual content??? In venues much, much more accessible to minors, even???

Anyways…Adam and the NPNH gang let off their steam with a biting rebuttal at their site, where they attempted the same old tired smack about how the big, baaaad, evil pro-pornies are out to “suppress” their speech….and they start out by quoting an eariler “example”:

Porn defenders are usually staunch advocates of the First Amendment, but when the issue is speech they don’t like, many can’t resist groping around in the legal code to find a way to shut down analysis and criticism. We encountered this last summer, when the owner of the website Cruising for Sex wrongly claimed that copyright law prohibited us from reproducing a small portion of The Gloryhole FAQ.

The “Gloryhole FAQ”, in case you are intersted, is NPNH’s slightly biased and totally whacked and cracked attempt to explain away the practice of “gloryholes”; which are basically private areas where people (mostly gay men, but increasingly straight hetero folk, too; can engage in semi-public sex through holes punched through the walls. (Yes, Adam and NPNH is as obsessed with demonizing gay sex just as much as they are with porn…especially when it comes to playing the “anal sex causes HIV/STDs” card.  They just so happened to randomly quote from the explicit (and free) Cruising for Sex website to prove how dirty and evil “gloryholes” and those who would participate in them are….copyright violations be damned.

Funny, but all the CfS webmaster did was to say that NPNH violated his copyright by using his images and words without his permission; it’s not as if he’s trying to put them out of business….no, wait…isn’t that exactly what Adam and his crew are attempting to do to adult bookstores and to porn itself??? Can you say, “Pot/kettle hypocrisy,” Clones??

They then get to the issue of “certain pro-porn activists” (Uhhhh, please, Adam, try to give Ren Ev and Ernest Greene their deserved props for their idea!!) attempting to “stifle” StopPornCulture…though they, unlike Ren Ev, manage not to even link to the SPC website or their slideshow (which has now been removed from the SPC site, interestingly enough).

Unfortunately, Adam shoots himself in the foot with the first attempted shot:

According to Wikipedia, the 2257 Regulations “require producers of sexually explicit material to obtain proof of age for every model they shoot, and retain those records”. The primary goal of the regulations is to prevent the employment of underage performers, such as Traci Lords.

First off: Wikipedia?!?!?! Damn, Adam….you could have just quoted the regulation directly from the Department of Justice; why the need for Wiki??

Secondly…you do know that it was Traci herself who fabricated her age in order to get into porn before was legal, right???

And finally….if the goal is really to prevent underage performers, then why not use existing laws against kiddie porn and not require 35 year old performers to provide such intimate and private information to the Feds??  Or, do you think that Nina Hartley is really a 17 year old trapped inside a 46 year old body???

Oh, but it gets so much better….here’s how NPNH explains why antiporn activists like them should get free passes from having 2257’s documenting regs apply to them:

To apply 2257 to the StopPornCulture slideshow is clearly unconstitutional. Under the First Amendment, restrictions on explicit expression that is not “obscene” must be as narrowly tailored as possible to achieve the government’s objective. Not only would application of 2257 to political critiques of the adult industry be overbroad, it would undermine the purpose of the statute–prevention of child porn–because the effect would be to severely impede criticism of the primary producers of pornographic material.

Application of 2257 would also be viewpoint discrimination because the record-keeping requirements would be so burdensome to nonprofit secondary producers as to shut down all multimedia presentations from that perspective. By contrast, the adult industry can far more easily absorb this inconvenience, both because of their wealth and because they are closer to the original production.

In other words, it is totally OK for the government to target (and for groups like NoPornNorthhampton) to target and censor sexually explicit media and imagery and slander its participants as either paid rapists and molestors (or mere mindless sluts and disease carriers, and even prosecute them or regulate them to financial ruin.  But, if anyone dares to call out such efforts for the censorship it is….well, they are practicing “viewpoint discrimination” against “the little guys/girls” fighting the good fight against the defiling and degradation of women and children; not to mention defending “sexual capitalism” (Sam Berg’s favorite phrase) and the profits of the evil  “sex slavery” trade.

Yeah, right.

Let me see now….OK, so Ernest Greene is a producer of porn, as well as an employee (so to speak) of Larry Flynt’s HUSTLER empire (in his stead as chief editor of TABOO magazine), and he happens to be Nina’s husband and occasional producer of her videos.  And Ren Ev is a part-time performer of porn by her own right.  That leaves moi (who has produced exactly…well, two or three pieces or written erotica that I got exactly NOTHING for); Peter (aka Iamcuriousblue); Trinity, and Amber Rhea….none of whom, as far as I know, have earned one red cent for our opinions on porn and such.

On the other hand, you have StopPornCulture, who exists as a non-profit organization which directly solicits funds for their projects, whose speakers (Gail Dines, Bob Jensen, Rebecca Wheishaut, et. al.) demand and receive royalties and honoraria for speaking at colleges and universities; and who directly receive money from “faith-based” groups backed by the Bush Administration.

But….it’s the “pro-porners” who are attempting to “stiffle” NPHN and SPC’s speech, right????  Ahhhhhhh…yeah.

Oh, yeah…and for folks who are always complaining about personal assaults on them, they are pretty quick to go personal on their critics, are they?? Here’s how they reset their justification of smacking down Ren:

Many things make no sense in Pornoland. The latest example is the position of Renegade Evolution, a porn advocate, “a bit pathological about the rights of free speech,” who objects to our linking to her public statements without permission (even though she linked to NoPornNorthampton on July 8 with no prior notice) and our referencing her material in a critical context. A key element of what free speech is about–truth emerging from open debate–seems to have escaped her…

Examining pornography and pro-porn arguments is critical to understanding how porn works, why it’s harmful, its addictive qualities, and the toxic, narrow version of sexuality it sells. We appreciate that porn advocates may be upset or embarrassed by having their materials used in this way, but their interests must be balanced against the harms the sex industry imposes on third parties and its own participants. We will not cease to use the industry’s copious amounts of self-damaging evidence against it. This includes cases of commercial exploitation of other people’s likenesses without their consent, a far less defensible act than referencing material to make a political argument.

Maybe Adam forgot when writing that first paragraph about the Founding Fathers that their concept of “open debate” tended to ignore certain groups of people…such as men who didn’t have lots of property or people of color….or WOMEN.

And of course, no one is denying Adam or anyone else (even freakin’ Witchy Woo or Stormcloud, for that matter) the right to be critical or Ren Ev in their own venues….she’s a big girl and can defend herself quite adequately. But, if you are going to fire nukes at other folks, you just gotta be able to accept that they will fire back in kind…and if you hit any innocent people with your fire, then you can’t blame the other fellow for your mistakes.

But just for Adam’s amusement, allow me to requote his last paragraph, albeit adjusted a bit to reflect the actual truth of the debate:

You know that I spend a lot of bandwidth here focused on exposing what I see are the lies and total wrongness of antiporn activism, especially from those pretending to be from the Left or the liberal perspective.

I’m sure that you have wondered out loud why I have such an obsession with these folks, and why shouldn’t I refocus this blog on more mundane matters, like, say, Obama’s historic candidacy or the upcoming hurricane season or the regular heat and humidity of South Louisiana??

Wehhheeelllll, Clones….if you really, really want to know, then I will amuse you with an answer.

It’s all about defending innocent people who do no harm to themselves or others against slander.

It’s all about defending the basic essential principle of social solidarity combined with respect for choice and diversity in all matters, from economics to sex.

It’s about debunking and demystifying all the rumors and memes put forth about not only the people who perform explicit sexual imagery and acts by their own choice, but those who actually enjoy the fruits of their labor.

But, mostly, because you can always count on the stupid, the insane, the totally whack, and the outright bigoted crackpot statement from the more strident of the “antipornradfems” which practically screams for a rebuttal.

Yes, I’m sure that the usual suspects do monitor and on occasion even will troll my blog so that they can fire their popguns at me for being such an evil defender of rape and murder.  I’m almost sure that Witchy-Woo, Maggie, Stormy, Sam Berg, Gooney Stan Goff, Bob Jensen, and all the rest of the AntiPorn Posse are already loading up their ammo to unload on me for  wanting to “increase men’s sexual access to women”; for being Renegade Evolution’s “pimp” (yeah, right, as if Ren Ev can’t make her own damn money on her own using her own damn talents; her use of sex being not even the best of these….and BTW, that is a high credit to her indeed, considering her sexual talents); and for basically being….well, a man who’s not afraid of either his dick or his brain and still willing to respect women for being human beings.

And that brings me to the final and ultimate reason why I will continue to bring the noise whenever it is needed; and to continue to tweak the noses of these bluenose pseudofeminists and their Christian Right allies in sexual reaction.  Actually, it’s more like several reasons, having mostly to do with some very intelligent, very talented, and very sexy women whom I have had the pleasure of meeting, debating, and even chatting with online. All of them have been associated in one way or another with performing or producing erotica/porn; and each have had their own unique experiences therein: the beautiful as well as the painful; the ecstasy as well as the agony. And yet, all of them have managed through their own ways to educate me more than any book or theory that sexual women can be as thoughtful, as passionate, and as human as any other woman or person on this earth.

Even if I never ever meet them face to face, they will have enriched my life and my brain (the big one between my shoulders as well as the little one between my legs) to my eternal benefit. And the best thing is….they still are.

Ahhh..lookee here. It seems that my commentary on Gail Dines and her appearance on Penn and Teller: BULLSHIT! seems to have attracted some interest.

Particularly, the good folks at NoPornNorthhampton, who just so happened to break me off a comment attempting to refute my and P&T’s takedown of Dines’ fundamental makeup of porn and its supposedly harmful effects.

In particular, this section which I wrote in the original:

OK….so the fact that it’s mostly girl/girl sex and solo masturbation scenes and mostly “vanilla” hetero scenes found in most porn sites and movies which make up nearly 80 to 90 percent of the porn being viewed in the US means absolutely nothing to Professor Dines; it’s that nasty-ass gonzo and the circus-sex acts of facials and anals and gangbangs that really count… [....]

Apparantly, Adam or one of his groupies had an issue with that; using a “recent academic study” that attempted to analyze porn DVD titles from the Adult Video News website to prove me wrong.

Wosnitzer: “We went through Adult Video News every month. [It] publishes a list of the top 250 best sold and rented adult DVDs… [W]e avoided the issue of ‘What is pornography?’ because AVN defined it for us, in a sense… We took the top 50 from each month, went back over a six month period, randomly generated took the top 50 films. We coded by scene. We had a total of 304 scenes that we coded over this randomly generated list of the top 50 films…

Wosnitzer: “We can read aggression and violence defined as any action causing or attempting to cause physical or psychological harm to oneself, to another person, animal or inanimate object, intentionally or accidentally, whereby physical harm is understood as assaulting another verbally and nonverbally…”

Bridges: “…I’m going to begin to talk about what it is that we found after looking at these 304 scenes in these 50 top selling pornographic films. In total in the 304 scenes we coded a total of 3,376 acts of aggression. That ends up averaging…to an aggressive act every minute and a half. The scenes on average contained eleven and a half acts of verbal or physical aggression…”

Now first off: these folks do know that analyzing this “random generated” (more like, pulled out of their asses) list or “top 50 videos” ignores the main point that most of the more popularly consumed and produced porn comes directly off the Internet, not from the major porn studios…and that analyzing 50 videos out of nearly hundreds if not thousands of adult videos that are released every year probably wouldn’t reflect the true diversity of content of porn in the first place.

Then there is their quaint and very open definition of “aggression”. which could include anything from an overly aggressive kiss or an insertion of the digits into another person’s naughty bits (remember, in Dines and NPNH’s worldview, any means of penetration of a woman is de facto defined as near rape, regardless even of the woman’s stated wishes), to open-handed slaps on the face or breasts or buttocks; to direct physical attacks designed to maim or injure. Not to mention the “verbal aggeression”, which basically can be reduced to: “He called her a WHORE, a BITCH, a C*NT!! He said one of those seven dirty words!!! Oh, the humanity!!!” The notion that dirty talk is designed more as a turn-on for the woman as much as for the man seems to be absent from their “studies”…but then again, actually pursuing the opinion and thoughts of the actual actors in those scenes probably wasn’t in their minds when they cooked up this “study”, now wasn’t it??

Bridges: “We also coded for, what…we’re calling loosely in this talk, ‘extreme acts’ (of sex acts). The only sexual sequence that we coded, which is…when one thing follows another, was something called ATM…’ass-to-mouth’. This literally involves anal penetration followed by oral sex…she is literally eating her own shit. That occurred in 41% of the scenes that we coded…”

Ahhhh, dude…I’ve seen my share of ATM (and ATOGM) scenes, and I can attest with absolute certainty that there is positively, absolutely NO “shit-eating” involved at all. In fact, the performers of such acts are thoroughly prepared well in advance for those scenes through enemas and douching and all other precautions to insure that no “accidents” even remotely occur. Perhaps you got that confused with the “scat porn” study???

And considering how open your concept of “aggressive” sex acts are, how can we know that you have not taken liberties with your definition of “extreme” sex acts, too?? Would that include plain anal scenes (of course, taking a dick up the ass must be total rape, because no respectful woman would ever enjoy such a deviant…errrrr, patriarchial activity?? Or…gang bangs (read: sex with more than one man)??? Or blowjobs leading to facials (because REAL women prefer their sex strictly missionary, and with none of the nasty sperm present…eeeeeeeewwwwwwwww!!! How gross!!!)

And why deal with percentages, anyway…..why not just state the number of scenes you saw that contained the offensive acts….or, better yet, just name the movies and the scenes so that anyone wishing to analyze your study for accuracy can see them for themselves??

Bridges: “Slapping happened 30% of the time… Most of the aggressors in these films were men…73%. By far the most common recipient of aggression was a woman. Even when women were aggressing, they were generally aggressing other women…”

Bridges: “How did the person respond when they were aggressed?… In 95% of these 3,000 and some acts of aggression, the person was either neutral, as in no change of facial expression or verbal expression, or was sort of saying, ‘That feels great. Keep doing it. Right on.’ And in only 3% did we see some overt expression of displeasure or pain. Again, it seems to be very important to the people who are watching this to believe that the recipient of aggression is fact enjoying it, is choosing it at some level…”

Ahhh, but you do know that there is a fundamental difference between a mild to moderate slap to the butt or breast or even to the face designed to stimulate the nerves and enhance sexual pleasure, and a genuine slap intended to hurt, maim, or injure the person. I would guess that the women who consented to doing those scenes already know the difference quite well, and would probably not appreciated outsiders interpreting their views for them. Maybe there reason why they reacted as it there was no pain was because…well..there really wasn’t any pain, and that it didn’t get to the level of violence or injury??

But, so much easier for antiporn ideologues to believe that women are either lying about this or dupes of the patriarchy, right??

Bridges: “…in couples research we know that couples, even couples who fight a lot, as long as there’s a lot of good in the relationship, about five times more good than bad, they actually do pretty well.

“Less than 10% of the videos showed any kind of a positive act, and that included kissing… caressing happened maybe twice. Something like a verbal compliment, ‘Gosh, you look pretty’, not, ‘Slut bitch, come over here,’ that happened maybe five times in the 304 scenes. So we have a ratio of positive to negative behaviors of 1 to 9, which is not a sustainable, happy relationship.”

Oh, I see…because the kind of porn that you analyzed does not meet some arbitrary ratio of “positive behavior” (kissing, caressing, and such) to nasty, negative, degrading behavior (dirty facials, anal sex, slapping), that proves your point that porn should be banished from the earth?? Never mind that there really is a subgenre of porn that emphasizes exactly what you see as “positive” (do the names Tristan Taormino and Candida Royalle ring any bells??). Is your issue really with porn content, or is it really about women and men who don’t meet your narrow, hyperromanticized standard of sexuality as being only legitimate for “emotional intimacy”?? Does it ever enter your mind that these are ACTORS performing SCENES that may not reflect upon their own private sex lives; that these women and men may be perfectly capable of having strong emotional personal relationships while still depicting acts they may enjoy on the side for their own pleasure??

But even all that ignores the main point: this is still (however NPNH may attempt to spin and distort it) a small minority of the porn that is available for consumption in the United States; and most of it still remains quite vanilla: het couples performing mostly standard sex acts; single women masturbating; and girls sharing each other (sometimes with their BF’s or husbands watching). To emphasize this small sample and attempt to condemn the whole genre of adult sexual media is not only a big lie, but a huge slander on everyone: the performers, the consumers, and those who defend consensual sexual expression.

Sorry, Adam and NPNH, but your old dog still can’t get beyond the same old trick. Try again when you have something new.

For those of you who don’t know the latest Rectal-Cranial spew from Jabba, the Fat-Ass Stoogie-smokin’ Oxycontin Comedian; he has openly revealed his true fantasies about how he thinks the Democratic slugfest between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama (or, as some of his “Dittoheads” would more plainly put it, “The Bitch” vs. Barack the Hafrican/Magic Negro/ Saddam Hussein Obama bin Laden) should end in Denver this summer.

With riots in the streets.

With people killed.

And with John McCain breezing to victory.

Never mind that at one time, Rush thought McCain to be much too “liberal” to be a capable conservative nominee for the Repub side….that was then and this is now, and conservatives gotta rally round the candidate they have.  (Besides, Johnny Mac, been kissing up to the “conservatives” so much lately that even Rick Santorum’s now backing his campaign based on fear of Hillary or BHO getting elected.

Hence, the much ballyhooed “Operation Chaos”: Rushbo’s plan for blowing up the “Democrat” Party’s nominating efforts.

Now, last time you might have heard about Limbaugh’s plans, it was during the Mississippi primaries, where Rush instructed his dittoheads to cross over party lines and stuff the ballot boxes for Hillary (Obama was actually favored and ultimately won that state’s primany).  A sound political move that was….that is, unless it results in a Republican congressional seat there going to either a “liberal” Republican or, even, A DEMOCRAT.

Uhhh…OOPS.

But never deny Rush’s tenacity; he’s still pitching the merits of his masterplan…and now he’s added a new battlefront: get Hillary the nomination by any means neccessary, because if that happens , then Barack Obama’s supporters will explode in riots on the streets of Denver, where the Dems will have their convention. And what else will make McCain look even more statesmanlike (other than his mighty temper) than the comparison between peaceful Republicans and fractuous, violent “far Left” Democrats???

Especially fascinating to me was when Jabba faced off with the caller who attempted to call Rush out over his call for such “chaos”, and broke out this nice blast:

Yup…that explains Limbaugh’s point exactly.  Who cares about the principles of free and fair elections, or campaign financing, or decent debates??  We are here simply to take power and keep power, and through any means neccessary, fair or unfair (though being conservatives, we’ll always fight “fair”, it’s only them far lefties who fight dirty) to maintain our power.

As much as I would love Malloy’s main dream of Limbaugh frog-marched out of the EiB studios with cameras rolling for slander and incitement to riot charges, I’m not holding my breath for that any time soon.  After all, if the Savage Weiner can still pollute the air with his anti-gay smack and BillO can still stay on the air after all his nonsense about “the secular progressive media’s out to get me!!!”….then it doesn’t seem to likely that “Da Comedian will get his any time soon.

Oh, well….at least there’s a few genuine progressive media outlets to call his bullshit out. I’m sure KO has a “Worst Person” slot already in the waiting…

Update: Amanda has now fully apologized, and Seal Press has announced that they will recall the book and remove the offending images. Probably a day late and a dollar short, though, for most WoC bloggers, who are openly questioning their faith in the overall feminist project.  The damage may have already been done.

It’s not anyone who can continuously get herself in to heaps of trouble pissing off people pretending to be so hip and liberal, while masking a much more devious side.

Maybe it wasn’t your idea to include these totally unacceptable images as title covers for your latest book; and maybe it’s just your publishers at Seal Press being either such tin-eared assholes or deliberately mocking those Women of Color bloggers who have been on their asses for so long about their dissing of WoC beliefs and authors.

But the fact remains the same: It’s your freakin’ book; and until you change those images and issue a full apology and retraction (and I highly recommend that for their own good, Seal Press do the same and withdraw the book until they come up with some less racist images), you will be the one to carry the responsibility and the blame.

Perhaps, you might seek some comfort from the inevitable firestorm from your newly found friends at the GenderBorg Collective….they seem to have taken a liking of you recently. Take for instance, this brief blast by Heart(less) on the folks of “Alas, a Blog” criticizing that particular choice of imagery (reposted here):

Update: Well, surpuriiiiiiiiiizzzze, surpuriiiiiiiize, surprise, as Gomer Pyle (the original from Mayberry) would say: Good old Heart(less) has entered the fray in defense of the Grand GenderBorg Diva; yesterday she reposted the same edict from “Miss Sammi Berg” that Witchy and Laurelin posted before, and then allowed the Collective hivemind to vent their spleen. And they were all in attendence, too: Luckynkl, Arantxa, Laurelin, Maggie Hays, and a few other regulars all made proper comments defending Sam and praising Karla Mantilla for her sterling job as stand-in for the “censored” Sammi. Apparently, the new party line is that it was indeed Ren Ev who both set up the W&M panel to squeeze out Sam (with assistance from the panel organizer Constance, who obviously is hiding her genuine pro-porn bias) and planned the earlier bust-in of the Genderberg forums….and that they were exactly right in their efforts to seek out and destroy her….even if she was nowhere near there; or that the “Miriam” they did target turned out to by the wrong one. But, being a Womyns’ Warrior means never having to say “I’m sorry”, right??

The most significant lunacy — aside from the usual bit, which includes a testimonial of love from Karla — comes from this comment posted by Heart(less) further down the thread:

Ahhh, OK…..so let me read that one more time: Sam invites herself to a debate; then chickens out when she can’t control who her opponent is…but it’s a victory for HER side because the other side was attempting to sandbag HER?!?!?!  Yeah, right, so that explains why the organizers were willing to invite the likes of Gail Dines or John Probert or Sam Berg in the first place???? Or the fact that they got Karla Mantilla to represent at the last minute, rather than just pulling out of the debate entirely??? Oh, but I thought that Ren was so violent against “radical feminists” that she would not even allow them to make even one statement before beating them up??  This is like the New England Patriots spinning that because they won 16 games this last NFL season and led for three quarters in the Super Bowl, they should be given the Super Bowl trophy despite losing the actual game to the New York Giants, regardless of the final score.  Actually, this is really more apropos to an old Dallas Cowboys fan saying that though their team didn’t even make the playoffs, they still should be ranked #1 because the ultimate winner was too scared to face the Cowboys anyway.

Apparently, Sam Berg didn’t think that her attempts to spin her way out of crawfishing out of the William and Mary debate wasn’t quite good enough, she has now, through the sockpuppetry of Witchy-Woo, fired a second blast attempting to shift the blame from her to Ren Ev and those evol, baaaaad “pro-pornies” who stalk “radical feminists” like her.

The most interesting facet about this latest round, though, is how Sammy attempts to twist and turn to her advantage a previous incident involving a momentary breach in the GenderBorg defense shields, and the paranoid reaction results.

Ren has ably and adeptly reset the entire background at her blog….but for the lazy, here’s the abridged edition:

Last year around this time, Pony — one of the principled commisars of the GenderBorg Collective — posted to the Genderberg forum’s supposedly protected firewalled section this comment attempting to dismiss Ren as a mere plant of “the pornographers”:

“I believe Ren Ev is porn marketing. There are many ways to market. What she’s doing is called astro turfing. I wrote about it in that other thread. This type of marketing gets those people who don’t like ads, but don’t get that ads can take many forms, and one of the most successful is to make the AD seem like a program, or an article, or a blog. She’s a front, something like BitchPhD is. That’s another type of advertising. Ren Ev’s being paid to popularize porn. No marketing initiative would ignore that type of marketing and the big porn market is now being managed by Time Warner and it’s peers with all their marketing engine. This astro turfing is far the most effective nowadays, when people are sick of ads, marketers can still use methods like this to slide by. All those people who are drawn to REs blog, daily grow more and more accustomed to seeing her as just another performer. She’s popularizing it. Taking the sting ot of it. Apparently she wrote about ass to mouth recently. No problem. Just use listerine. And they listen to her. She’s marketing. She’s archived by google. Now, I’ll pass for now the question on how someone can be such a “porn marketer” without receiving one cent of payment….but that’s neither here nor there.

Anyways…someone who was formerly a regular at the G’Borg forum was so shaken by this statement that she decided to quit the forum…but not without sending the statement to her friend Soulhuntre, who then promptly, like a good radfem hater, alerted Ren by posting it to her blog as a comment on another thread on the Wheelock College antiporn whitewash…errrrr, conference. She also decided to come out public with her own brief blog, in which she promised to blow off the lid on what she called “radical feminist terrorism”. (The blog only lasted two posts, though, amid concerns raised about the practice of respecting the privacy of private forum content.)

Nevertheless, once the word got out to the G’Borg collective that their security was breached, the response was as rapid as the original Borg’s assimilation of galaxies. Accusations flew of forum hacking, of a “pro-porn” spy lurking within the G’Berg forums, of a plot by Ren Ev to infiltrate the Collective and destroy it from within…..in other words, the usual paranoia you’d expect from the Womyn Warrior Cult.

Ultimately, the main thrust of the fire was directed at Ren…..and thusly, we saw the beginnings of Stormcloud’s “bees” smack, as well as her subsequent declaration of full scale war on Ren through outing her and revealing her private information. Never mind that Ren actually deleted the offending citation when called out on it, or that she never physically threatened or even emailed Sam and the G’Borg folks on the subject of their firewall breach…..in their minds, Ren had to be swiftly punished, and soon.

So..what does this have to do with the present fracus?? In a name: “Miriam”.

You see, “Miriam” used to be Ren Ev’s old Internet handle; she used it for her old LiveJournal diary as well as a earlier version of her blog, and she had even kept a Blogger profile using that old handle.

Well….one of their efforts to smear and out Ren/”Miriam” for being such a deviant from the GenderBorg collective hivethink consisted of an email that Sam apparantly sent to a “Miriam” that was briefly a member of the G’berg forums at that time….and was allegedly being assumed to be Ren Ev attempting to undercut the forums from within. An excerpt, posted by Sam this morning via Witchy-Woo:

“I feel bad for you because you’ve obviously been seriously fucked up by people in your life, but if you don’t back off slagging on radfems you’re going to force my hand.I can prove you committed fraud when you lied to moderator deedle about your gb membership, and I can prove you were the one who leaked Pony’s words. Because you’re a pathological liar, you’re probably thinking you can lie your way out of this just like you’ve done other times.You can’t.

I didn’t out you before because I have a soft spot for seriously fucked up women like yourself, but I’m not above initiating legal action to show the ex-sex workers in my little community that their privacy and continued peace of mind is something I take very seriously. If you cared about sex workers one tenth as much as you manipulatively tell people you do then you would not have violated a sex worker-heavy community like you did.

Stop telling lies, Miriam. You’re not as good at it as you think you are.”

(Why does that sound like Sam is quoting Stormy verbatum??? The hive mentality thinking alike, perhaps???)

Now, if Ren actually did attempt to join the Genderberg forums to do such mayhem, then this would only be farcical and ridiculous.

Problem was…..Ren never did such a thing.

And even worse: it seems that in the process of their vendetta against Ren, they might have struck an innocent bystander.

Turns out, that there was indeed a G’Berg member named “Miriam” who did post as a radfem antiporn opponent (you couldn’t even get into the G’Berg forums otherwise)….and when she recieved the email that Sam sent accusing her of “slagging radical feminists” and being Ren in disguise, she freaked out enough that a friend sent an email of protest to Sam about the mistaken identity. Ren went ahead and posted the full content of that email at her blog today (she had hesitated before because the other “Miriam” hadn’t allowed permission to print, but apparently she got so tired of Sam’s shit-spinning that she gave Ren the go-ahead).

Here’s some excerpts (the full text is at Ren’s blog, emphasis added by me):

This morning I received a very worried email from “Miriam,” in response to an email I guess you sent her yesterday (below.) This “Miriam” is actually a woman who has commented only occasionally at my blogs and we have exchanged the occasional email on certain feminist topics. Apparently she attempted to join GBerg sometime last year but I believe she has never posted there to date. Perhaps that is how you came by her email?

She was very upset by your email — who wouldn’t be, I suppose — as she is not up on all the Blog War Drama and had no clue what you were referring to.

Putting 2 and 2 together I think you are assuming this “Miriam” is Renegade Evolution, as I learned on that gigantic thread at Witchy’s that Ren used to go by the name Miriam also.

I assure you, the woman you emailed yesterday is NOT Renegade Evolution, nor has any relationship with any feminist bloggers other than myself. She doesn’t even have a blog.

I told her I would email you in attempt to clear this up as she is pretty shaken by this.

Apparantly, it’s not so warm today….especially when Sam decided to launch a new charge that “The Other Miriam” — the one she delivered her email warning to — was in fact the GenderBorg leaker, and was also the founder of the supposed “Radical Feminist Terrorism” blog, too….even implying not so subtly that Ren/Miriam was behind it all. Throughout May and June the moderators at Genderberg worked like demons to try and figure out which of the 100 or so members was the leak. We ask every member a series of questions before approving them and we were going member by member to try and restore some of the lost sense of security that made one prostituted woman feel she had to leave GB. By early July we pooled our research and figured out that the leak was someone who registered as “Miriam” with a bunch of hooey about being anti-pornography and caring about prostituted women. And actually, the threat to reveal personal info on Ren Ev actually took place at Witchy’ s blog a bit later on, by Stormy.

Either way, no one really knows who it was that actually did leak out the original forum blast at “Ren Ev the Porn Marketing Expert”; or who it was that founded the RFT blog. (Although, there was a former radfem who used to have a real vendetta against Heart, even going as far as to mock her ID handle; she might be more the person to pull such a trick like that on her own.)

What we undisputatively know, though, is that an innocent woman — a radical, antiporn feminist, even — has been basically pilloried, smeared, and ultimately shamed in public for a crime she didn’t commit….and the best that Sam Berg can offer her is a flippant “If you weren’t whom I was targeting, I apologize…Warmest wishes” back then?!?!?! And she still attempts to slander “The Other Miriam” now with the same charge today???

Let me reveal why I really don’t think that McCain will win this argument.

Third….even if you consider Charles Barkley’s classic axiom that athletes should not be considered role models, I’d suppose that neither should politicians. Yes, McCain is an veteran and a certified army hero who survived the “Hanoi Hilton”; and that deserves all due respect…but he isn’t running against the Viet Cong. He’s running for President of the United States….and at least he and his spokesmen should be able to distinguish the enemy. I mean, it’s not as if Obama and Woods are spankin’ twins.

But that’s not the real slam dunk argument here…never mind Eldrick’s legacy as a golf professional; just take a look at hoe Tiger is shredding the competition most recently:

* He’s won SEVEN of the last NINE tournaments he’s played this year…and barely missed by one shot the ones he lost.

* He’s favored to sweep the four major tournaments (Masters, PGA Championship, British, US Open), which would make him the only male golfer to complete the “Grand Slam” of pro golf in the same year. Considering that he has already the only golfer to win all four tournaments back-to-back (in the infamous “Tiger Slam” of 2002-2003), that seems like a safe bet.

* He’s already won more money on the world pro tour in three months than many golfers have won in the entire year….let along their lifetime.

Having been raised as a Catholic and having some deeply devout religious folks in my family, I understand more than anything the power of religious faith; and I’m more than willing to respect people who truly believe in their faith in whomever deity they choose.

Where I draw the solid line, though, is when religious folk cross the line from promoting their faith and belief to disrespecting and attacking those who freely choose not to share their particular belief…and when religion is used as a club to beat down those that they don’t like.

Two recent events prove all too well how excessive religious zealotry and blind bigotry can do mighty harm.

Case #1 you probably know about, since it’s been all over the news of late: Oklahoma Representative Sally Kern’s most recent rant against “the homosexual lobby” that was originally part of a speech she did before a private Republican group, but thanks to YouTube and the Victory Fund, got spread worldwide.

Of course, such slanders against homosexuals are all too familiar, and all too common, and reflect the usual ignorance and hatemongering that we all seem to expect from the Religious Right.

Case #2, on the other hand, has gotten little or no media play, but in many ways is even more disturbing…though, considering the depth of religious zealotry within particular Black communities, I probably shouldn’t find it any more surprising at all either.

This is Illinois State Rep. Monique Davis going off on atheist activist Ron Sherman during a recent hearing of the Illinois State  Assembly’s State Government Administration Committee.  The subject originally was Sherman’s opposition to a $1 million state grant that got in the hands of a local Chicago Baptist church: but apparantly Rep. Davis wanted to make it a bit more personal, and went after Sherman’s faith (or lack thereof).

For the record, Davis is Black and a Democrat; while Sherman is White and a Green Party member.

Notice that both Kern and Davis both claim the name of “God” and the fusion of faith and country to attack their alleged foes as somehow “anti-American” or “alien”; note also that both claim themselves as representing “the majority” and abuse history to claim their bigotry.

So…what is the main difference between the two??  Not much, in my view…other than the visibility of the victim groups being attacked.

Homosexual groups have rallied in force against Kern visibly and rapidly, to the point that Kern has had to seek defense behind the firewall of the usual right-wing activist groups like Friends of the Family, Morality in Media, and other such anti-gay organizations.  By contrast, however, you could hear the sound of crickets over any hint of public criticism over Davis’s slams of atheists…..other than the few right-wing attempts to link her with Rev. Jeremiah Wright (and by extension, Barack Obama) as the typical example of Black rapicity.

Could it be because so much of the liberal blogosphere is so obsessed with Republican bigotry that they tend to gloss over the same kind of bigotry when it is spewed by Democrats??  Or maybe, it’s
because atheists are so small in number in comparison to fundamentalists that they don’t have the collective political power to challenge the likes of Rep, Davis??

Whatever the cause may be, it is vitally important for Black progressives (if not ALL progressives, in fact) to be as critical of hatemongering when it comes from our side as it does when the people on the Right spew it. In my view, Monique Davis is as unfit to serve her consitiuents as Sally Kern is…and in the end, there is no difference between them as equally reactionary.  You don’t have to be an atheist or a homosexual to oppose them equally; just being a living human being with a brain and a soul and a conscience will do.

You may not like what atheists believe in or what homosexuals do in their own private time; but they are as much equal citizens as you are; and as long as they do no harm to you or anyone else, it’s not your place to condemn them for what they believe. We are still (for now, at least) ruled by the Constitution, not the freakin’ Taliban.

Oh, and final memo to Rep. Davis: Abraham Lincoln was actually a non-believer in God for most of his life, alternating between atheism and agnosticism.  Only at his deathbed did he convert to Christianity. Perhaps you meant a different “Land of Lincoln” than what you said in your rant, madame.

Yes, the boys are mad. Their minds have gone completely around the bend and they’re totally off their rockers. They are raping and killing women and children at will now. And, what about the modern-day female leaders like , say, Margeret Thacher, Golda Meir, Benazir Bhutto, Condeleeza Rice, Madeline Albright??? They may have had men pull the triggers and drop the bombs for them, but they match up pretty damn well when it comes to plunder and murder…don’t ‘ya think???

Now…why does this remind me of the classic far-right Cold Warrior who simultaneously talks on on side of his mouth about the all-powerful Soviet Empire that crushes democratic dissent like Goliath stomps a fly…yet is supposedly so weak that he can be beaten with only the slightest puff of wind??
